Structure of binary antimony phosphate glasses by diffraction methods

Antimony phosphate glasses (Sb2O3)x(P2O5)1-x with x = 0.05 and 0.80 were measured by neutron X-ray diffraction high real-space resolution. The P−O O−O distance peaks of the PO4 tetrahedra found expected parameters. For glass Sb−O coordination numbers distances suggest highly distorted SbO3 SbO4 environments according to strong lone-pair effects Sb3+. fraction has right portion that all oxygens can form Sb−O−Sb or Sb−O−P bridges. Significant secondary bonds (> 0.25 nm) are extracted. first peak at 13 nm−1 is related between stacked layers corner-connected oxygen triangles as in orthorhombic Sb2O3. medium-range order reminds vitreous P2O5. Its units formed mean 0.210 nm.

The structures of three xGeO(2)-(1- x)P(2)O(5) glasses, where x = 0.98,0.88, and 0.81, have been studied by neutron and x-ray diffraction experiments that yield well resolved P-O and Ge-O bond distances.
